When you foster a dog, you agree to take a homeless dog into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, until the dog is adopted.

Why does TAG Pet Rescue need foster homes?

There are many reasons a dog might need foster care.

We have limited kennel spaces so very often the number of dogs we are asked to help far outnumbers our kennels. To help these dogs we need foster homes where they can be cared for until a permanent home is found.

  • A puppy is too young to be in kennels and needs a safe place to stay until he or she is old enough to go to a forever home.
  • A dog is recovering from surgery, illness or injury and needs a safe place to recuperate.
  • A dog is showing signs of stress in the kennels as not all dogs do well in a kennel environment and needs to be in a home environment.
  • A dog has not has a good start in life and needs to be trained/ socialised.
  • The Sanctuary is running out of room for the dogs needing their help.

Why should I foster a dog?

Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re:

  • Freeing up a kennel space so TAG can take in another dog.
  • Saving on kennelling costs.
  • Giving your foster dog the quality time he needs to be ready for adoption.
  • Helping us understand more about the dog so they can be found the best suitable home possible.
  • Socialising the dog in a home environment and possibly getting him used to being around other pets and different types of people.

What do I need to foster a dog?

All the dog needs is love, understanding & patience.

A warm bed (provided by TAG).

Good quality food (provided by TAG).

Daily walks and possibly some basic training.

TAG will need you to provide regular updates about how the dog is getting on and if you have any concerns, medically and behaviourally.

Am I insured should anything happen while out on walks?

Yes TAG has full insurance cover for all of the rescues while under our care.

What if I became attached and did not want to part with my foster dog?

You can apply to adopt in the same manner as anyone else.

Can I choose if I feel the dog may be too big for me to handle?

Yes of course.

Prior to you becoming part of the fostering team you will fill in an application form.

We then arrange to visit you in your home and have a chat about which type of dog would suit you best.

What if the dog needed the vet?

TAG is fully responsible for all the dogs veterinary needs while under our care.

What do I do now? I would like to apply to join the TAG Dog Foster Team.

Fill in the Dog Adoption Application Form but where it states ‘Name of the Dog you are interested in’ please write FOSTERING. We will contact you to arrange a home visit and discuss what type of dogs would be a good match for you to foster.

Thank you from all of us at TAG Pet Rescue

We hope to welcome you to our team very shortly
