All of our rescued animals are logged on to a database on admission and a form is signed by the owner/finder disclaiming all rights and handing ownership over to us.
TAG cats and dogs are micro chipped, wormed and de-flead. Cats, dogs and rabbits are spayed and neutered. Male chipmunks, chinchillas, guinea pigs, degus etc. are neutered if sharing enclosures with the opposite sex. TAG rabbits are inoculated against myxamatosis.
Once an enquiry has been made regarding the adoption of one of TAG’s rescued animals an appointment will be made to arrange a home visit so that one of our home visiting team can call at your home to discuss the adoption procedure. This is to ensure that our rescued animals will go on to live with sensible responsible people. Once the home visitor is happy that the prospective home will be a good one, an appointment will be arranged for a visit to the Sanctuary for you to choose the pet you wish to adopt.
Our veterinary bills are massive so an adoption fee is required on signing the adoption form. The fee does not cover all expenses but does help towards it. A form giving micro-chip details must also be completed at this time. Please don’t forget to notify the micro-chip company if you change your address.
Even our bunnies and guinea pigs have their own home checker.
We do have guidelines regarding cage/enclosure sizes which need to be seen to be in place by one of our home checking team before adoption takes place. This is to ensure a better quality of life for our animals – for their benefit, not ours. It’s not very often that we encounter a problem after an animal has been rehomed but all new owners will be given full after care advice and support, should it be needed. We do love to hear from you to find out how your new pet is settling in. Some of your pics and stories will appear on our rehoming stories page. Should you have any other enquiry relating to adoption please telephone the sanctuary on 01843 822931.
